SCALE team @ Metallic Materials&Processes International Conference
The SCALE team will be attending the 2nd Metallic Materials and Processes International Conference on October 25-27, 2017, (http://www.goo.gl/TdNsTT) and present a keynote on “Enabling Scandium mass production through industrial waste valorisation for improved Aluminium properties (Al-SC Alloy) with potential application to Additive Manufacturing”. 1st SCALE Project Progress Meeting in concurrence with ERES
Hosted by NTUA, the first SCALE Project Progress Meeting was celebrated on May 31, 2017, on the Greek Island of Santorini, in concurrence with ERES, the 2nd Conference on European Rare Earth Resources, gathering stakeholders and professionals from the public and private sectors, as well as from the academy. Kick Off Meeting
The SCALE Project is officially launched! Aluminium of Greece hosted the Kick Off Meeting on December 19, 2016, gathering more than 50 experts from Europe and USA. With the aim of developing the SCALE Project as the reference for Scandium in Europe, the WP leaders illustrated the working plan for the entire project, and specifically for the next few months.
WHAT IS SCANDIUM?
Scandium is a chemical element with symbol Sc and atomic number 21. A silvery-white metallic d-block element, it was discovered in 1879 by spectral analysis of the minerals euxenite and gadolinite from Scandinavia.
Scandium is a rare-earth metal, used in small amounts but with drastic effects on properties of matter. It is a key component in producing high strength Aluminium alloys used in aerospace and 3D printing as well as in Solid Oxide Fuel Cell (SOFC) applications.
